The Hamilton
Suzuki School of Music, formerly the Hamilton Philharmonic
Children Inc., began in 1967 as a centennial project of the
Women's Committee of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
It became known as the HSSM in 1979/1980. The goal
of the Hamilton Suzuki School of Music is to promote the musical
education of children and to nurture their musical growth as
they mature, specifically through the Suzuki method.
The HSSM is a
charitable, not-for-profit organization registered with the
Canada Revenue Agency and governed by a Board of Governors made
up of elected teachers, parents and interested community
members. The Board sets policies and governs the general
operations of the School. There is also a Parents'
Association, of which all parents of HSSM students are members,
which organizes parent meetings, fund raising and other special
events.
The HSSM
Faculty is comprised of professional musicians, all of whom are
highly qualified and Suzuki-trained. All HSSM teachers are
members of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
We strive to
develop children's natural love of music and to nurture musical
talents for personal enjoyment in a rewarding and vibrant
learning environment.
